Deep Creek Dunk Event Guide

Each year, the Deep Creek Dunk transforms the shoreline of Deep Creek Lake into a high-energy celebration of courage, community, and giving back. While the icy plunge is the headline moment, the weekend is packed with events that invite participants of all ages to get involved. The Deep Creek Dunk is February 20, 2027. This favorite event offers something for everyone and all of it supports Special Olympics Maryland.

Deep Creek Dunk

The main event: Deep Creek Dunk

The signature plunge is what most people picture when they hear “Deep Creek Dunk.” After months of fundraising, individuals and teams gather the Honi Honi Bar many in creative costumes. Registration starts at 11AM along with great live music from a DJ. At 1PM, everyone gathers around the stage for the costume contest. When the countdown begins at 2PM, waves of brave dunkers rush into the icy water together.

The atmosphere is electric. Music, cheering crowds, and a sea of colorful costumes create a festival-like setting. Some participants sprint in and out, while others embrace the cold for a few extra seconds. No matter how long they stay in the water, every dunk represents meaningful fundraising and support for Special Olympics athletes across Maryland.

Spectators line the lakefront, ringing cowbells, snapping photos, and celebrating each group of plungers.

Cool Schools Dunk: Kids Making a Difference

One of the most inspiring parts of Deep Creek Dunk weekend is the Cool Schools Dunk. Local students rally together to raise funds in advance. It teaches students the importance of teamwork and community service.

On Thursday before the main event, students take their turn splashing into the chilly water. For many kids, it’s their first time participating in a large-scale community fundraiser, and the experience leaves a lasting impression. All of the money raised supports the Garrett County chapter of Special Olympics.

Goosebumps, Grapes & Growlers: A Toast Before the Plunge

For those who prefer their winter fun a little less icy, Goosebumps, Grapes & Growlers offers a lively adults-only kickoff event. It is hosted the evening before the Deep Creek Dunk at the Honi Honi Bar. This gathering brings together participants, supporters, and sponsors for a night of tastings and socializing.

Local wineries, breweries, and beverage vendors showcase their offerings while guests enjoy music from the Honi House Band. It is the perfect way to warm up before the big plunge and celebrate the fundraising efforts that make the weekend possible.

More Than a Plunge

Beyond these featured events, the Deep Creek Dunk weekend includes live entertainment, fundraising contests, and costume competitions. Many participants turn it into a winter getaway, pairing dunk day with skiing at Wisp Resort.

At its core, the Deep Creek Dunk is about community. It’s about businesses, schools, families, and friends coming together to support athletes and celebrate inclusion. Whether you are braving the icy water, cheering from shore, or raising a glass at Goosebumps, Grapes & Growlers, you are part of something bigger.
